Reading, PA - The Dayton Bombers dropped a 5-2 decision to the Reading Royals in front of 5,450 at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania Saturday night. The Bombers have dropped 3 straight as they prepare for Sunday's game against the defending Kelly Cup champion Trenton Titans.
The Royals opened the scoring 1:53 into the first period when John Morlang beat Bombers goaltender Chad Collins to make it 1-0. Greg Hogeboom made it 2-0 with his 2nd goal of the season at 3:14. And Jon Francisco gave Reading a 3-0 lead with his 2nd of the season at 19:05 of period one. The Royals scored 3 goals on 5 shots in the first period, and Bombers starting goaltender Chad Collins was replaced by emergency back-up Sean Broderick at the start of the second period.
Mike Pandolfo ripped a slapshot past Broderick at 7:33 of the second period giving Reading a 4-0 lead. And Doug Christainsen made it 5-0 with a powerplay goal at 13:58. The Bombers got on the board with a powerplay goal from Tyson Teplitsky at 18:52 of the second period, but the Royals led 5-1 after 40 minutes.
The only goal in the third period was scored by Bombers rookie forward who notched his 4th goal of the season at 11:38. The Bombers outshot the Royals 37-20 in the 5-2 loss.
The Dayton Bombers, proud "AA" affiliate of the National Hockey League's Columbus Blue Jackets, are celebrating their 15th Anniversary this season.
