Johnstown Chiefs News Release

(Johnstown, PA)-While the Johnstown Chiefs continued their offensive struggles, losing to Wheeling, 4-2, they may have found some much needed toughness. Brandon Elliot dropped the gloves on two occasions, the 2nd time battling two Wheeling Nailers, before being called for unsportsmanlike conduct. The first time Elliot dropped the gloves, he clearly bested defenseman, Daniel Fernholm, with a flurry of right hands. In total, Elliot racked up 11 minutes in penalties, including five for fighting, two for instigating, two for cross checking, and two for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Brady Greco also dropped the gloves, taking on Alexandre Rouleau. Rouleau was assed a 10 minute misconduct penalty after the fight.

Elliot also got the scoring underway for Johnstown, wristing a shot just inside the far post, beating Andy Franck at 2:17 of period One.

The Chiefs commanded much of the first period, until Brandon Hodge poked a rebound past David Currie at 16:10 of the first period. Then, a quick one-two punch early in period Two, put Johnstown down 3-1. Goals 21 seconds apart, from Bo Cheesman and Kurtis McLean, put the Chiefs on their heels.

After trading blows, literally, through the rest of the 2nd period, the Chiefs took command in the third period. A wrister by Paul Caponigri over Franck's shoulder at 12:50 of the final frame put Johnstown within one. Moments, later Brett Peterson's wrist shot hit the post, denying the Chiefs a tying goal.

David Currie stopped 14 of 17. Andy Franck stopped 20 of 22.

The two teams will face of in an afternoon contest tomorrow at the WesBanco Arena, in Wheeling. Face-off is at 3pm. The game can be heard on the Johnstown Chiefs radio network (WNTJ-850 AM and 990 AM) and seen on the B2 Networks. Next Friday, the Chiefs host the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:30 PM.
