Grizzlies End Ice Dogs Unbeaten Streak At 6

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (5-5-1) and the Utah Grizzlies (7-3-0) played Saturday night for the first time since the 1999-2000 season when both teams were in the IHL, as Utah won by a wide margin of 5-1. The loss was the first in regulation for the Ice Dogs in their last seven games.

The Grizzlies struck first with a goal by Louis Dumont, the ECHL's all-time leading scorer at 14:52 of the first period. Anthony Battaglia and Jeff Miles were both credited with an assist on the goal.

Leading 1-0 heading into the second, Utah got a trio of goals by Brad Herauf, James Laux, and Matt Craig to take a commanding 4-0 lead. It wasn't until 16:11 of the period that Chris Kenady finally got the Ice Dogs on the board, scoring on a two man advantage with assists to Cory Urquhart and Ash Goldie to make it 4-1.

The only scoring in the third was a goal by Garett Cameron of the Grizzlies with 11 seconds to go in the game, sealing a disappointing night for the Ice Dogs. Greg Hewitt took the loss for Long Beach, making 27 saves, while Alfie Michaud was credited with the win for Utah making 33 stops. The Ice Dogs finished 1-8 on the power play while Utah's league leading power play unit went 1-5.
