Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. – Lance Galbraith scored for the Idaho Steelheads with just 26 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime and eventually a 4-3 shootout triumph over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 3,429 fans at Centennial Garden on Wednesday night.

Idaho took the lead on a goal by Mike Sgroi just 4:36 into the match, only to be equaled by Paul Rosebush's tally on the power play at 14:07 of the opening period. Rosebush's 23rd of the season extended his goal streak to four games. He set up Andrew Ianiero in the second period on a shorthanded breakaway for Bakersfield's first lead of the night at 6:52. The goal was Ianiero's 17th of the season, second shorthanded, to make it 2-1. It wouldn't last, however, as Idaho converted on a power play later in that period to make it 2-2. Jan Kopecky's 23rd of the year beat Condors G Shane Bendera to send it into the third tied up.

Valdemar Pelikovsky, playing forward on the night, scored his fourth of the season with a wrist shot past Idaho G Blair Allison to make it 3-2 Condors at 3:17 of the third period. With their goaltender pulled in the final minute, Galbraith banged in a loose puck for the tying score. After a scoreless overtime, the Condors were just one of eight in the shootout, and Sgroi's tally in the eighth round finished the game with a 4-3 Idaho win. Although the Condors are 1-4-3 against Idaho, every non-win in the season series have been one-goal games.

Bakersfield finishes their five-game homestand with a match against the Long Beach Ice Dogs on Friday night at 7:00pm. The first 2,000 fans 16 and over will get a free Condors license plate frame, sponsored by KGEO AM 1230 and Whitewater Carwash.
