March 18, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA â Louisiana IceGators Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Dave Farrish announced today the Louisiana IceGators have been assigned former team captain Bruce Richardson from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League. Richardson is scheduled to be in the line-up tomorrow night when the IceGators host the archrival Mississippi Sea Wolves.
For Richardson, a 26-year-old, 5'9", 180-lb center, this will be his third stint with the IceGators. In two previous stints in Louisiana, Richardson's gritty play and outstanding scoring touch made him one of the most popular IceGators in recent years. As a Gator, Richardson has played in 62 games, scoring 29 goals with 63 assists for 92 points. The native of Quebec amassed 196 PIMS with Louisiana. His talent and hard- nosed attitude has earned him respect throughout the hockey world. Both times Richardson has left the Gators, it has been to a higher league, most recently in 2003 when he signed a contract with the Hershey Bears, the AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche.
"This is a very exciting day for IceGators hockey. Anytime you can add a player of Bruce Richardson's caliber at this time of the season, it means a great deal to the organization and our fans", said Farrish. "The last time he was here he led the league in scoring before his call up to Hershey. We expect Bruce to be a key performer in the post season and our run for the Kelly Cup."
Richardson is scheduled to arrive at Lafayette International Airport at 9 p.m. tonight and will be added to the line-up immediately. The IceGators play two games at home this weekend, hosting the Mississippi Sea Wolves on Friday, March 19 at 7:05 p.m. and the Pensacola Ice Pilots on Saturday, March 20 at 7:05 p.m. Friday is Iberia Parish Appreciation Night. All residents of Iberia Parish will get $2 off tickets at the Cajundome box office with ID. The Friday night drink special is $2 beer. Saturday night is Boy Scout Night. All Boy Scouts in uniform will receive a commemorative patch.
