IceGators Host Kelly Cup

March 18, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA – The Louisiana IceGators will welcome the ECHL's top prize, the Kelly Cup, to the Cajundome on March 19 and 20 during the games against the Mississippi Sea Wolves and the Pensacola Ice Pilots. The Kelly Cup Tour has visited ECHL cities, mostly on the East Coast, since February 20. After the stop in Lafayette, the Cup will visit the Idaho Steelheads in Boise, Idaho.

The Kelly Cup is named in recognition of Patrick J. Kelly, one of the founding fathers of the ECHL. Kelly served as Commissioner of the ECHL for the first eight seasons before being named Commissioner Emeritus in 1996, a title he continues to hold. Kelly celebrated his 50th season in hockey in 2002-03, having played in the American Hockey League, the International Hockey League and the Eastern Hockey League and coached in the Eastern Hockey League, the Southern Hockey League and the National Hockey League.

IceGators fans will be able to take pictures with the Kelly Cup and are encouraged to bring cameras to the Friday and Saturday games. Friday night against the Mississippi Sea Wolves is Iberia Parish Appreciation Night. Iberia Parish residents get $2 off tickets at the Cajundome box office with an ID. College students can purchase $5 tickets with a valid college ID. The Friday night drink special is $2 beer. Saturday night's game against the Pensacola Ice Pilots is Boy Scout Night. All Boy Scouts in uniform will receive a commemorative patch.
