Brampton Steelheads News Release
Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads Hockey Club today announced that 15-year-old Sean Day of the Detroit Compuware will be the 4th overall pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, presented by State Farm̨̉.
Born January 9th, 1998, Day is best known for his powerful stride and skating ability and becomes the fourth player - after John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad and Connor McDavid - to earn exceptional status to play major junior hockey a year early.
The Steelheads are thrilled to add a talent like Day and look forward to seeing what he can do. Steelheads owner, Elliott Kerr could not hide his excitement when talking about this pick. " We are thrilled to have, who in our minds was the most talented player in the Priority Selection, an outstanding athlete and wonderful young man join our Mississauga Steelheads family. Steelheads GM, James Boyd said the choice was a no brainer when Day was available with the 4th pick " Sean is a highly skilled player who has all the tools to be an outstanding player in the league. We welcome he and his family to the Steelheads organization and look forward to working with him over the next few years."
OHL Central Scouting describes the 6'1, 180lb, defenseman Day as: "A player that has the ability to bring people out of their seats when he is on the ice. He is an effortless skater with a long powerful stride, which makes him very deceiving when he is in full flight as to just how fast he is going. Sean is very explosive off the mark, which allows him to get up to full speed in just a couple of strides. His mobility in all four directions is outstanding, when he pivots from backwards to forwards or vice versa he doesn't lose any of his momentum. He has very good puck skills and is able to beat an opposing player one-on-one very easily."
The entire Steelheads organization would like to welcome Sean Day and his family to Mississauga.
