Soo's Own Blake Spears Selected by Greyhounds

With their 1st Round pick (11th overall) in today's OHL Priority Selection presented by StateFarm, the Soo Greyhounds selected centreman BLAKE SPEERS from the Soo Thunder Minor Midgets.

"Blake is an extremely talented young man who has posted elite offensive numbers throughout his minor hockey career. Blake plays the game at high speed and can create offensive events in a variety of ways as he attacks the offensive zone with speed. Blake is a highly competitive player who plays the game at high speed. His combination of speed and skill allow him to push the puck through all three zones with control and create offensive chances. As a Program, we are thrilled to add a local player in the 1st Round for the first time since Tyler Kennedy and we feel Blake will become the next in a long line of local players to have solid careers as Greyhounds" stated GM Kyle Dubas.

Speers, a native of Sault Ste. Marie, ONTARIO, stands 5'9" while weighing 157 lbs.

In 61 games played in 2012-13 he had 43 goals and 70 assists, good for 113 points.

At the OHL Cup, playing for the NOHA All-Stars, Speers tallied 2 goals and 4 assists good for 6 points in 4 games played while earlier in the year, Blake and his Thunder teammates were crowned champions of the Tim Hortons international tournament in Hamilton, ON.

The Soo Greyhounds will introduce Blake to the local fans momentarily when he will join Gerry Liscumb Jr. live on ESPN 1400 (1400 AM). You can also hear the broadcast online at http://stream.sovcomm.net:8001/espn1400

The Greyhounds will now pick 3rd (22nd overall) in Round 2.
