Spitters Lose Second Straight

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters lose game one of the series against the Kokomo Jackrabbits, 4-3. The Pit Spitters record drops to 27-17, and 5-4 in the second half. The Jackrabbits improve to a 16-28 overall record and 3-7 in the second half.

Tyler Cate opened the game in the top of the first inning for the Jackrabbits with a leadoff single. Cate stole second and then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Ganus. Roman Kuntz gave the Jackrabbits and early lead with a groundout to third, to make it 1-0. The Pit Spitters responded when Jack Crighton led off the bottom of the first with a walk. Parker Brosius then hit a double to put runners on second and third with no outs, and Colin Summerhill followed with a sacrifice flyout, driving in Crighton to tie the game at 1-1. Evann Long continued the offense for the Jackrabbits in the top of the second with a leadoff double, followed by a Jack Anderson single to put runners on the corners with no outs. Nick Powers made a throwing error on a ground hit back to the mound by Nolan Christianson, allowing two runs to come in and score giving the Jackrabbits a 3-1 lead. Filip Sarota singled to center bringing in Christianson to extend the Jackrabbits lead 4-1. Summerhill and Evan Orzech drew back-to-back walks with one out in the top of the fourth to put runners on first and second. Tyler Minnick came through with a single to left field to cut into the Jackrabbits lead 4-2. Andrew Mannelly drew a leadoff walk, and then was replaced at first by Crighton who grounded into a fielder's choice. Parker Brosius then drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Glenn Miller hit a flyout to right field allowing Crighton to tag up and advance to third. During Summerhill's at-bat, Brosius stole second, and on the throw down, Crighton came in to score to make it a 4-3 game. The Jackrabbits would hold on to their one run lead, to win game one of the series.

The Pit Spitters drop to 27-17 on the season and 5-4 in the second half, while the Jackrabbits improve to a 16-28 overall record and 3-7 in the second half. Pit Spitters starting pitcher, Nick Powers threw four innings, giving up three runs on five hits, striking out six. Holden Wilder came in for relief and threw three innings of scoreless ball, giving up one hit and a walk. Jared Ure threw and inning and a third of scoreless ball, giving up two walks and struck out one. Aaron Forrest came in for the final out of the ninth inning and didn't give up any hits.
