North Charleston, SC South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that defenseman Steve Spencer will undergo surgery to repair a broken bone in his hand and miss at least two months. Fitzsimmons also announced that the Rays have picked up defenseman Steve L'Ecuyer from the waiver wire to fill Spencer spot on the roster.

"Steve is a hard person in our lineup to replace," commented Fitzsimmons. "He has tremendous physical presence and plays hard each night."

Spencer injured his hand in a fight with Florida forward Brandon Coalter.

Steve L'Ecuyer will join the Stingrays immediately and is expected to be in the lineup when the Rays travel to Greenville on Friday.

The Stingrays are home this Saturday against the Greenville Grrrowl for Teddy Bear toss for Salvation Army and Debbie's Kids. A variety of season ticket and group ticket packages are still available.
