Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced six separate transactions as follows: (1) right wing Brendan Bernakevitch reassigned by Manchester to Reading; (2) left wing Dany Roussin reassigned by Manchester to Reading; (3) left wing Mike Pandolfo returned to Reading from the Binghamton Senators (AHL); (4) center Jon Francisco placed on seven-day injured reserve; (5) defenseman Jeff State placed on seven-day injured reserve; and (6) right wing Larry Courville placed on thirty-day injured reserve.
Bernakevitch, a first year pro who had a stellar four year college career at Harvard University, was reassigned to the Royals in mid-October and was with the team during training camp for a short period but was re-called to Manchester before the start of the ECHL season. A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Bernakevitch has played eleven games with the Monarchs thus far this season and has scored four goals and added three assists. While at Harvard, Bernakevitch was selected to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference's All-Tournament team in his sophomore and junior seasons-receiving the tournament's Most Valuable Player award in 2004, when he scored the game winning goal in the tournament semi-finals and assisted on the game winner in the finals.
Roussin was a second round selection by the Kings (50th overall) in last year's NHL Entry draft. He is coming off a spectacular season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League where his 54 goals and 116 points was second only to his former linemate on Rimouski Oceanic and NHL phenom, Sidney Crosby. In Roussin's final year in junior, Rimouski won the QMJHL championship and made it all the way to the finals of the Memorial Cup before bowing out in the championship game to the London Knights. Roussin, a 6'2/200 native of Quebec City, actually led the QMJHL in goals-with 59-in 2003-04. In fifteen games with the Monarchs this season, Roussin has scored a goal and assisted on another.
Pandolfo returns to the Royals after playing one game with Binghamton, a 4-3 win over the Syracuse Crunch last Thursday (11/24). Over the course of this season, Pandolfo has scored nine goals and added seven assists in twelve games with the Royals. Before being loaned to Binghamton, Pandolfo had put together three consecutive multi-point games, four consecutive games in which he had scored at least one goal, and five consecutive games in which he had at least one point. Pandolfo, who has had five multi-point games with the Royals this year, leads the team in power play goals with four.
Francisco has scored five goals-four in his last six games-and picked up six assists in thirteen games with Reading. He is currently riding a six game point streak during which he has collected eight points. State has amassed 54 penalty minutes in his eleven games with Reading this year. Courville has picked up one assist and twelve penalty minutes in eight games for the Royals this season.
Reading returns to action this Friday night against the Dayton Bombers at the Sovereign Center (7:00 pm). The first 1500 fans in attendance get the first in a series of five bobble-heads commemorating the Royals' fifth anniversary season. On Saturday, the Royals are back at the Sovereign Center against the Toledo Storm (7:00 pm). The first 2000 fans in attendance on Saturday receive a Royals' picture frame courtesy of the St. Joseph Medical Center.
