South Carolina Stingrays News Release

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons announced this week that they have signed left wing David Spina to an American Hockey League contract. Spina joined the Falcons on November 16 after originally signing a PTO contract.

"You put players on Professional Try-out Agreements to give them the opportunity to show that they deserve a commitment for the balance of the season," said Falcons President and General Manager Bruce Landon. "Dave came here and provided us with additional speed and scoring punch which in today's game is so important. We fully expect Dave to continue to contribute to this team and are pleased he has accepted a contract for the balance of the year. He has certainly earned it."

"It is not surprising that Dave was able to earn a contract in the AHL," added Jason Fitzsimmons, Stingrays Head Coach."

Spina has played in seven games for the Falcons this year collecting four goals and one assist for five points, including goals in four straight games. Prior to joining the Falcons, Spina played in 11 games for the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL this season recording a team leading seven goals. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound native of Mesa, Arizona also led South Carolina in power play goals this season with four prior to his arrival in Springfield.

Spina is in his first full season of professional hockey after spending four seasons with the Boston College Eagles from 2001-2005. In 138 career games with the Eagles, he registered 49 goals and 54 assists for 103 points. Spina made his professional debut last season playing in nine games with the Utah Grizzlies (AHL).

The Stingrays are home this Saturday against the Greenville Grrrowl for Teddy Bear toss for Salvation Army and Debbie's Kids. A variety of season ticket and group ticket packages are still available.
