Anchorage, Alaska- Special teams were the order of business on Tuesday night as the Alaska Aces used two first period power play goals to defeat the Utah Grizzlies by a score of 2-1.

Alaska took a quick lead; just two minutes into the first period, Barrett Heisten picked up a power play goal, his ninth of the season, assisted by Peter Metcalf and Ryan Gaucher. The Grizzlies were quick to respond, when, on a power play of their own, Chris Leinweber found Matt Craig in front of the net for the goal. Tom Reimann also picked up an assist. But the Aces struck again, this time it was Ryan Gaucher, again on the power play, to put Alaska up 2-1 at the end of the first.

The second period saw more special teams action. Both Utah and Alaska were whistled for two penalties apiece, but Utah's Alfie Michaud, and Alaska's Matt Underhill kept the score at 2-1.

The game stayed tight into the third period, and the Grizzlies were unable to capitalize on two power plays as the score remained at 2-1. Utah pulled the goalie with over two minutes left in the game, but even with the extra attacker, the Grizz were unable to put the puck past Underhill as he hung on for the win.

The Grizzlies look to even things up with the Aces when they go head-to-head again on Wednesday, November 30, in the second of this two-game series. Game time is 9:15 p.m.
