ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A pair of power play goals gave Alaska a 2-1 edge that goaltender Matt Underhill would protect for more than 46 minutes in a Tuesday night victory over Utah before 3,777 at Sullivan Arena.

The Aces had begun the month of November with a pair of losses to the Grizzlies, including a 4-1 defeat with Underhill in net. But Tuesday, Alaska scored twice on the power play for the third straight game, beginning with Barrett Heisten's ninth of the year at 2:08 of the opening period, set up by a long outlet pass from Peter Metcalf. The Grizzlies tied the score on a power play of their own, as rookie Matt Craig buried his 13th of year, tying him for the ECHL lead, at 6:01. The Aces regained the lead for good when Ryan Gaucher blasted a one-timer past Utah goalie Alfie Michaud with 6:16 left in the first period, again with the man advantage and assisted by Metcalf.

The Grizzlies entered the night boasting the league's second-best power play at better than 28 percent, but failed to score on their final five opportunities, any of which could have forced overtime. Underhill stopped all 19 shots he faced over the last two periods and finished with 26 saves, out-dueling Michaud, who recorded 25.

Alaska, now 10-3-2 overall and 8-1-1 at home, once again has forged a second-place tie with Utah (11-6) and can move to within a point of division leader Idaho with a victory tomorrow night in the rematch at 7:15 p.m. ADT.

All Aces games, home and away, are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com. In addition, all home games and selected road contests will be available on a pay-per-view basis on the internet, courtesy of B2 Networks.
