December 22, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays scored three power play goals in the first period, and added a short handed goal in the second, en route to a 4-1 victory over the Charlotte Checkers at the North Charleston Coliseum. The victory made it nine in a row for the Rays, their second longest streak in team history.
It was an eventful first period as Cail MacLean got the Rays on top early with a power play goal, his second in as many days. It was the fifth goal of the season for the captain, coming at 2:03 from Matt Reid and Pierre-Luc O'Brien. Steve Pinizzotto notched his tenth of the year on the man advantage at 9:41 from Stephen Werner and Trent Campbell. Travis Morin got in on the action, with a power play tally of his own, coming at 18:57 from Pinizzotto and Reid.
In the second period Reid made it 4-0 when he scored a short handed goal at 5:23 from Nate Kiser and Morin. This was the eighth short handed goal of the season, which is most in the ECHL.
Charlotte got on the scoreboard in the third period when Blake Bellefeuille got his seventh goal of the season, a power play goal, from Mike Bayrack and Ryan Constant at 3:43. That made the score 4-1, the eventual final.
The winning goaltender was Davis Parley who stopped 25 of the 26 shots that he faced. The losing goaltender was Curtis Darling who stopped 24 of the 28 shots that he faced. South Carolina went 3-8 on the power play, while they killed off nine of the ten short handed situations they faced.
The Rays will be back in action on the 29th of December, when they travel to Charlotte to take on the Checkers once again. Game time will be at 7:30.
