Texas Wildcatters News Release

Beaumont, TX- The Texas Wildcatters got quickly back to their winning ways with a 3-2 over the Mississippi Sea Wolves Saturday night in Ford Arena. With the victory, the ‘Catters unbeaten-in-regulation streak swells to 17 games.|

Cleve Kinley set off a shower of stuffed animals when he gave the ‘Catters (22-2-1-4= 49 pts) the early lead with a sharp snap shot at 16:35 of the first period. An estimated 600 stuffed animals were thrown onto the ice by the Texas faithful following the goal assisted by Moises Gutierrez and Kevin Baker as donations to needy Southeast Texas children in the annual Teddy Bear Toss promotion.

The game would remain1-0 until John McNabb registered his team-leading 14th goal of the season to give the Wildcatters a two-goal advantage at 8:34. Matt Kassian and Brandon Benedict would collect assists on the play.

Danick Bouchard, the top Texas rookie goal scorer, would suffer an unspecified but apparently consequential leg injury after going awkwardly into the boards after being hit by Mississippi's Michael Couch. Bouchard was taken off the ice in a gurney by attending medical personnel and would not return.

After the injury timeout Mike Grenzy would drop the gloves with Couch in the game's only fight.

Ryan Menei would continue his fine play against the ‘Catters and register his fifth point against Texas this season with a power play goal to bring the Sea Wolves (9-17-1-1) within one point at 11:59 of the second period.

Marc Fulton would put the ‘Catters on top 3-1 with a goal that would prove the game winner 3:20 into the final period. Tim Cook and Baker would notch assists on the goal. With two assists Saturday, Baker's five-game points streak encompasses his entire 2007-08 tenure with Texas.

Mark Hurtubise would bring Mississippi within striking distance for the second time, but Anton Khudobin, who stopped 26 to remain unbeaten in regulation this season (11-0-0-3), would make several key saves as time wound down to secure the eighth Texas win in the last ten games and widen their South Division lead over the Gwinnett Gladiators to 12 points.

The Wildcatters will enjoy a short break for the holiday but head out to Pensacola and Biloxi to face the Ice Pilots and Sea Wolves on Dec. 28 and 29.

The next ‘Catters home games are January 4 and 5 versus the Charlotte Checkers. Book your group now and enjoy ticket discounts! Call (409) 951-5500.
