Cyclones Extra Special In 3-1 Win

JOHNSTOWN, Pennsylvania - Cincinnati Cyclones center Barret Ehgoetz has enjoyed playing against the Johnstown Chiefs this season and Saturday night, he helped lead the club to a 3-1 win with a goal and an assist. The Cyclones special teams registered two power play goals and a shorthanded goal to help the cause. It was the fourth straight win for Cincinnati and assured it of at least a tie for the North Division lead at the Christmas break.

Ehgoetz' points brought his season total to 14 points against the Keystone State opponent-as the Cyclones have 24 goals as a team against the Chiefs this season. It was Cincinnati's fifth consecutive win against Johnstown in 2007-08.

Johnstown opened the scoring 2:44 into the first period with a power play goal from Jean Desrosiers-his twelfth of the season. The Cyclones leveled the scores at 1-1, when Barret Ehgoetz stole a pass at the Chiefs blueline and outraced both Johnstown defensemen to the net and beat Mike Brown at 9:19-shorthanded-his tenth of the year. Ehgoetz has 13 points on the season against Johnstown-his most against any team in the ECHL. Cincinnati outshot Johnstown in the first period, 14-10.

In the second period, Matt Syroczynski netted his ninth goal of the season, grabbing a rebound and stuffing it home at 12:08 of the frame-on the power play. Gerard Miller and Jean-Michel Daoust had the assists for Cincinnati. Less than three minutes later, at 14:57, the Cyclones added another power play marker from rookie Sean Perkins, on his first professional goal-to open the 3-1 edge. Matt Macdonald and Ehgoetz added the assists. The Chiefs won the shots on goal battle in the second period, 8-6.

There was no scoring in the third period and the Cyclones took the victory-their seventh straight game under Chuck Weber in the facility without a regulation time loss (5-0-2).

The Cyclones are 20-6-2, while Johnstown is 10-16-1. The 20 victories mark the first time in club history that it has had as many before Christmas. The game was also the 100th in the coaching career of Cyclones coach Chuck Weber. The club is 57-35-8 under his tutelage (.610 winning percentage)..

The Cyclones enjoy a few days off for the holidays and play the third game of their six game road trip to close the calendar year next Thursday (Dec. 27) with a clash at Wheeling. That 7:05pm tilt will be carried live on the club's website: www.cycloneshockey.com.
