Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Chris Bala ("BA luh"). In separate transactions, the team also activated forward Matt Herneisen and placed forward Joe Zappala on the three-day injured reserve.
Bala (6'1"/195) (29), a seventh year pro from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, has played two games with the Royals earlier this season. Bala, who served as the Royals' team captain last year, did not register a point on November 21 in Trenton, New Jersey (a 3-2 loss for the Royals) or on November 23 when the Royals defeated the Columbia Inferno 3-2 at the Sovereign Center. For Herneisen (6'0/195) (25), a fifth year pro from Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania, tonight will mark his first game for the Royals since November 7-a span of 16 games, during which he sat out due to injury. Herneisen has scored a goal, added seven assists, and picked up 32 penalty minutes in ten games for the Royals this year. Zappala (6'0/205) (24) sat out the last two games for the Royals due to injury. He has scored four goals, assisted on nine others (thirteen points) in eighteen games for Reading this year.
The Royals return to action tonight (Saturday, December 22 at 7:05 pm) when the Dayton Bombers visit the Sovereign Center. The first 2000 fans that night receive an ice-scraper mitten courtesy of Capital BlueCross. The game day broadcast will begin at 6:35 pm with the pre-game warm-up show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Ephrata, as well as on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com. Streaming video is available on a pay per view basis through the B2 Networks.
