Bridgeport Islanders News Release
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the New York Islanders, went 2-2 this past week, winning twice on the road, and have a record of 5-4-0-2. The Sound Tigers lost 3-1 at Norfolk last Wednesday, then won games on back-to-back nights, beating Binghamton 5-2 on Friday and Portland 2-0 on Saturday - both on the road. The Sound Tigers capped a three game weekend with a 2-1 loss to Hartford at the Arena at Harbor Yard on Sunday.
In the standings: The Sound Tigers are in fourth place in the East Division with 12 points.
Road warriors: In eight road games, the Sound Tigers have earned 11 of a possible 16 points. The Sound Tigers are 5-2-0-1 away from the Arena at Harbor Yard.
Between the pipes: Goaltender Wade Dubielewicz earned both wins this week - and captured first star honors in both games. Dubielewicz stopped 34 of 36 shots against Binghamton, and denied Portland on all 31 shots the next night for Bridgeport's first shutout of the season.
Three stars: In addition to Dubielewicz earning top star honors twice, backup goaltender Billy Thompson made 28 saves to earn the No. 3 star in Wednesday's loss at Norfolk. In the win at Binghamton, Blake Comeau and Peter Ferraro earned the second and third star honors, respectively. Against Portland, Kevin Mitchell and Jeff Tambellini won the second and third star accolades, respectively.
Five games, five goals: Ferraro kept his five-game goal-scoring streak going at Binghamton, then had it snapped at Portland.
Binghamton nemesis: Comeau has had a hand in seven of his team's 10 goals in a pair of games at Binghamton. He had four assists there in the season-opening 5-3 win and added a goal and two assists in Friday's win.
Strong PK: Bridgeport's penalty kill - at 93.5 percent, is tops in the league at the start of the week. The Sound Tigers have allowed just 5 goals in 77 opponent power play chances.
The week ahead: The Sound Tigers take the ice Friday at Philadelphia (7:05 p.m.) and host Worcester Sunday at 4 p.m. Next Wednesday is the educationally-themed Cool Fun 101 game at the Arena when the Sound Tigers host Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at 11 a.m.
