LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
Lowell (11/3): The Manchester Monarchs topped the Lowell Devils 2-1 in a shootout at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Center Gabe Gauthier tallied his first professional goal against Devils goaltender Frank Doyle. Center Rod Pelley collected the goal for the Devils in the first period. Monarchs goaltender Jason LaBarbera earned the victory stopping 21 shots in 65 minutes of play and denying three shooters in the shootout. Doyle took the loss for the Devils stopping 22 shots. Center Patrick O'Sullivan, defenseman Eric Werner and right wing Lauri Tukonen scored for the Monarchs in the shootout. Left wing Patrick Davis is the only Devil to beat LaBarbera in the shootout. Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. Lowell was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
Rochester (11/4): Manchester Monarchs goaltender Jason LaBarbera stopped 39 of 41 shots in the 2-1 loss to the Rochester Americans on Saturday night. Left wings David Booth and Stefan Meyer scored 39-seconds apart to give the Amerks the lead. Left wing Matt Moulson cut the lead in half by scoring his second goal of the season. Amerks goaltender Adam Dennis earned the win with 26 saves. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Rochester was 0-for-10 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Monarchs (4-4-1-0) are tied for fifth place in the Atlantic Division with nine points.
The Monarchs power play is ranked second in the AHL after nine games with a 27.6-percent man-advantage scoring percentage. Manchester has scored 16 goals on 58 opportunities so far this season with the man advantage.
Manchester's penalty kill is ranked 26th in the league after letting in 13 goals on 55 situations when the team has been down a man for a 76.4-percentage.
Left wing Noah Clarke (5-4=9) is tied with defenseman Eric Werner (0-9=9) for the Monarchs team scoring lead after nine games. MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES (CONTINUED) Clarke's five game point streak came to an end on Friday night as the left wing was held scoreless. The California native had eight points (4-4=8) in last five games.
Clarke's five goals are tied for the team's goal scoring lead with right wing Lauri Tukonen (5-2=7).
So far this season, Clarke (66-85=151) has surpassed center Yanick Lehoux (63) and is tied for third place with left wing Eric Healey (64) on the all-time goals scored category, passed right wing Pavel Rosa (84) on the all-time assists category for fourth place and is tied for third place with Rosa (151) on the all-time points list for the Monarchs. His 22 power play goals are tied for first all-time with center Michael Cammalleri.
Clarke's four power play goals are tied for sixth place in the league.
Werner (0-9=9) leads the Monarchs with eight assists.
Werner is tied for fourth place in the AHL among defensemen with nine points, ranked second among blue liners with nine assists and he is tied for 11th in the league among rookies with his nine assists.
Defensemen Peter Harrold (1-7=8) is ranked third in scoring for the Monarchs.
Harrold scored his first professional goal against the Worcester Sharks on Saturday, October 28.
The rookie defenseman from Ohio ended his five game point streak by going scoreless against the Lowell Devils on Friday night. Harrold had seven points (1-6=7) in five games.
Harrold's eight points are tied for sixth place in the league among defensemen.
Tukonen is tied for third in the league with five power play goals.
Center Gabe Gauthier scored his first professional goal against the Devils in the Monarchs 2-1 shootout victory on Friday, November 3.
Defenseman Brendan Buckley played in his 500th professional game on Sunday, October 29 versus the Binghamton Senators.
IN THE COMMUNITY
Hockey 101: For Women Only - Ladies, forget about picking up bits and pieces of hockey knowledge from your husband or boyfriend. The Monarchs are holding the third annual Hockey 101: For Women Only event on Monday, November 6 from 7-9 p.m. Women will learn the ins and outs of hockey from the Monarchs coaching staff and players, including terminology, video, on-ice drills and even how to dress a hockey player. The players instructing the women will be forwards Ryan Murphy, Jeff Giuliano, and Petr Kanko, defensemen Doug Nolan and Shay Stephenson and goaltenders Barry Brust and Jason LaBarbera.
Hannaford Signings - For the next two weeks, the Monarchs team will be visiting Hannaford Supermarkets signing autographs for fans.
