Binghamton Senators News Release
LAST WEEK: The Senators (3-7-0-2, 8 pts) were 0-3 this past week, losing two games at home to fall into last place of the East Division.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 3rd vs. BRIDGEPORT (2-5 L):
The Senators fell behind early as Peter Ferraro and Blake Comeau both found the back of the net in the first period to stake Bridgeport to a 2-0 lead. Center SERGE PAYER collected his first marker of the season early in the second period to make it a 2-1 contest. JOSH HENNESSY and MICHAL BARINKA assisted on the tally. Steve Regier slipped the puck past goalie JEFF GLASS midway through the second period to extend the Sound Tigers lead to 3-1. Four minutes later rookie ARTTU LUTTINEN gathered a lose puck and buried it past Wade Dubielewicz to get the Senators within a goal at 3-2. ANDREW EBBETT extended his point streak to five games with a helper on the LUTTINEN goal. BOBBY ROBINS also collected a helper, his first point since opening night against Syracuse on 10/7. The Sound Tigers added goals from Jeff Tambellini and Rick Berry in the third period to finish off the Senators. Goalie JEFF GLASS had 26 saves in the losing effort. Sound Tigers goalie Wade Dubielewicz turned away 34 of 36 Senators' shots to earn first star honors.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4th vs. LOWELL (2-3 L):
For the second straight night the Senators found themselves in a 2-0 deficit as Lowell right winger Aaron Voros scored his first maker of the season at 15:47 of the opening period to stake the Devils to a 1-0 lead. Center Chris Minard collected his first tally of the season early in the second period to push the lead to 2-0. SERGE PAYER netted his second marker in as many nights with a power-play goal to cut the score to 2-1. PAYER extended his point streak to four games with the tally. CHARLIE COOK and CORY PECKER assisted on the goal. Binghamton pulled goalie KELLY GUARD in the final minutes to add an addition skater, when Rod Pelley intercepted a CORY PECKER pass and snapped a wrist-shot nearly the length of the ice to score an unassisted, short-handed empty netter to seal the game for the Devils. JEFF HEEREMA scored a last second tally at 19:59 to make the final score 3-2. KELLY GUARD had 18 saves in the losing effort. Devils rookie goaltender Jordan Parise turned away 44 of 46 shots to earn both his first-career victory and first-star honors. The Senators outshot the Devils 46-21, including an 18-6 advantage in the last period.
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 5th @ PROVIDENCE (3-5 L):
Rookie winger ARTTU LUTTINEN gave the Senators an unfamiliar first period lead as he collected his fifth marker of the season. ANDREW EBBETT and TOMAS MALEC added helpers on the goal. With the assist, EBBETT extended his point streak (2+10=12) to seven games. EBBETT collected his third marker of the season, a short-hander, at 18:37 of the first to push the Senators lead to 2-0. The Bruins offense came to life midway through the second period, as center Ben Walter scored the first of five unanswered goals for Providence. Just thirty-seven seconds later, Petr Tenkrat buried the puck past KELLY GUARD to tie the game at 2-2. The Bruins added three third-period goals, including a second goal by Ben Walter, to open up a 5-2 lead. The Senators struck on the power play at 14:23 of the final stanza, as GRANT POTULNY netted his third marker of the season to finish off the scoring. EBBETT and defenseman TOMAS MALEC assisted on the final goal of the night. EBBETT, Binghamton's point leader, finished the night with three points (1+2=3) and was award third-star honors. Bruins center Ben Walter ended the night with four points (2+2=4) to earn first-star honors.
THIS WEEK: Binghamton (3-7-0-2, 8pts) heads to Rochester for the third meeting of the season with the Amerks on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:35. Binghamton dropped two one-goal games on back-to-back nights to Rochester earlier this season. Rochester (10-1-0-0, 20 pts) currently hold the best record in the American Hockey League. Binghamton will host Philadelphia on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 7:05.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10th @ ROCHESTER (7:35):
The Amerks fast start can be attributed to their tremendous goaltending so far this season. Goalie Craig Anderson is 4-0-0-0 this season and ranks first in the AHL with a 1.23 goals against average and a 0.959 save percentage. Adam Dennis is 4-1-0-0 this season, accumulating a 2.40 goals against average and a 0.937 save percentage. The Senators lost 3-2 to Rochester on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. ANDREW EBBETT and JEFF HEEREMA both collected markers in the 3-2 loss at home on Oct. 14. The Senators all-time record against the Amerks is 16-10-3-2-2 (W-L-T-OTL-SOL).
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11th vs. PHILADELPHIA (7:05):
The Senators dropped their first meeting against the Phantoms on Oct. 15, losing 4-3 in a shootout. Goalie JEFF GLASS had 40 saves in the loss. JEFF HEEREMA, BRIAN MALONEY and GRANT POTULNY all scored for the Senators. The Senators all-time record against the Phantoms is 11-4-0-4-2 (W-L-T-OTL-SOL). Marty Murray leads the Phantoms with 15 points (2+13=15).
