Adirondack Phantoms News Release
WEEK IN REVIEW
Friday, Nov. 3 - Albany 6, Phantoms 2: Matt Murley and Keith Aucoin each contributed a goal and two assists to lead the way for the Albany River Rats in a 6-2 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms in front of 5,871 at the Wachovia Center. Albany opened up a 4-0 lead and didn't look back, also benefiting from goals by Brad Isbister, Dan DaSilva, Jeff Finger and Cody McLeod on the evening. Ryan Potulny and Petr Nedved provided the scoring for the home team. It was Albany's first win in Philadelphia since Dec. 6, 2000, snapping an 0-11-0-1 winless skid since that time. Martin Houle received the loss with nine saves on 13 shots, while Scott Munroe stopped 14 of 16 in relief. Tyler Weiman stopped 26 of 28 Phantoms attempts.
Saturday, Nov. 4 - Phantoms 5, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 4: The Phantoms rattled off three straight goals in the second and third periods, and Petr Nedved bookended them with a pair of tallies, powering the club to an electrifying 5-4 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in front of 6,834 at the Wachovia Spectrum and giving Kjell Samuelsson his first win as a head coach. Petr Nedved earned first star honors with two goals and an assist, while Denis Tolpeko, Triston Grant and Matt Davis also scored. Davis's tally was his first professional marker. Martin Houle earned the win with 29 saves on 33 shots, while Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers took the loss with 22 saves on 27 Phantoms chances. The win snapped a six-game losing skid for Philadelphia and was just the second loss of the young season for Wilkes-Barre, which came into the contest riding a seven-game winning streak.
Sunday, Nov. 5 - Phantoms 4, Hershey 1: Rookies carried the Philadelphia Phantoms on Sunday afternoon, as goaltender Scott Munroe made 41 saves to collect his first professional win and three other first-year players scored to lead the team to a 4-1 win over the Hershey Bears at the GIANT Center. It was Hershey's first regulation loss of the young season. The Phantoms scored the first goal of the game for the first time in five games and for only the third time this season when Jussi Timonen scored his first North American goal. Don Morrison scored his first as a professional, while Matt Davis scored for the second consecutive game. Daniel Corso also found the back of the net. Frederic Cassivi took the loss with 19 saves on 23 Phantoms shots, while Munroe's efforts earned him the first star of the game.
UPCOMING OPPONENTS
Friday, November 10 - Phantoms vs. Bridgeport, 7:05: It's the first of eight meetings this season between the Phantoms and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (New York Islanders). Bridgeport starts the week with a record of 5-4-0-2 for 12 points, putting them in fourth place in the East Division, one point ahead of the Phantoms. Rookie Blake Comeau, who's in his first full professional season after joining the Sound Tigers for seven games during last year's AHL playoffs, has been impressive with three goals and nine assists for 12 points in his first 11 games.
Saturday, November 11 - Phantoms at Binghamton, 7:05: The Phantoms make their first foray of the season to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena to meet the Senators (Ottawa Senators) for the second time this season. Philadelphia was victorious over the Baby Sens in Philadelphia on October 15 by a 4-3 shootout decision. After missing that game due to injury, Ryan Potulny is once again on track to play professionally for the first time against his brother Grant, who plays for the Senators. Binghamton is in Rochester on Friday before returning home to host the Phantoms on Saturday.
Tickets for Friday's game, as well as all Phantoms regular season games, are now available! As always, kids tickets for all Phantoms games are just $8.00. Purchase online at phantomshockey.com or to charge by phone, call 1-800-298-4200.
MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT
This Friday is Military Appreciation Night with the Phantoms. The team will be collecting items to send to the Phantoms Platoon, the 5th Platoon from the A Company's 710th Brigade Support Battalion of the United States Army. The Liquid Lead platoon, as they are also known, is currently deployed in Afghanistan. The Phantoms adopted the Platoon prior to their deployment in March 2006 and sent them off with various Phantoms gear and general supplies. In addition, the Platoon has kept a blog on phantomshockey.com and they have been able to watch Phantoms games on the Internet thanks to the generosity of B2 Networks.
Items the Phantoms are collecting for the Platoon include new toiletries for men and women, and both new and used DVDs, CDs books and magazines. Collection bins will be on the concourse.
MURRAY NOMINATED FOR PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The Phantoms nominated C Marty Murray for CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week honors this week. Murray registered five assists over Philadelphia's three games last week, and finished with a plus-1 rating. He had one assist in Friday's 6-2 loss to Albany, and posted three helpers in Saturday's 5-4 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Murray finished the week with an assist in Sunday's 4-1 win at Hershey. Murray is on a five-game point streak and has points in six of his last seven games, collecting two goals and 10 assists for 12 points in that span.
PHANTOMS NOTABLES
In addition to Kjell Samuelsson's first win as a head coach on Saturday vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, it was also the first win for Joe Mullen as a member of the Phantoms coaching staff. It came against the team Mullen piloted to the East Division Finals last year after taking over mid-stream for Michel Therrien, who was promoted to Pittsburgh... Petr Nedved is on a four-game point-scoring streak, with three goals and three assists in his last four games... Albany's 6-2 win over Philadelphia on Friday was the River Rats' first win in Philadelphia since Dec. 9, 2000. The Rats had gone 0-11-0-1 in 12 games since then. It ended the longest home win streak in Phantoms franchise history against any league team... The weekend's wins over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Hershey were the first consecutive wins over the two teams for the Phantoms since April of 2005... with those two wins and the opening night win over Norfolk, the Phantoms have one victory over each of the top three teams in the Eastern Conference heading into this week.
