November 6, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Worcester Sharks News Release
A Quick Look Back
11.4.06 - Springfield 3 - Worcester 2
The Sharks entered the MassMutual Center not having played a game in six days. Forward Mathieu Darche wasted little time putting Worcester up 1-0 and erased any thoughts the Sharks would come out rusty. Unfortunately, penalties plagued the Sharks could not find much offense for the rest of the game. Grant Stevenson had his second consecutive multi-point game with one goal and one assist, while Nolan Schaefer made 34 saves and was credited with his first loss of the season.
Games Ahead
11.10.06 - Worcester vs. San Antonio - DCU Center
Friday will mark the first game of the season where the Sharks will face a team outside the Atlantic Division when the San Antonio Rampage travels to the Shark Tank. Worcester's 5-3-0-2 record comes against all Atlantic Division teams.
11.11.06 Worcester vs. Providence - DCU Center
On Saturday, the Providence Bruins come to the DCU Center to take on the Sharks for the first time ever in Worcester. The teams have traded wins, both at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, with the Sharks taking the second game in a 5-2 win. The Bruins are red hot as of late winning their last five games and taking control of the top stop of the Atlantic Division with a 7-2-0-1 record and 15 points.
11.12.06 - Worcester vs. Bridgeport - Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard
The Sharks have yet to face off against the Sound Tigers this season. Currently, Bridgeport is 5-4-0-2 and ranks fourth in the East Division. The game will mark the third in a row for the Sharks after playing at home on Friday and Saturday.
RBK Hockey/ AHL Rookie of the Month...
Rookie forward Joe Pavelski was named the American Hockey League's Rookie of the Month for October on Wednesday. For the fourth week in a row, Pavelski is leading all rookies with 15 points (3+12=15) in ten games. For his efforts, he will be awarded an etched crystal prior to a Sharks home game. The playmaking center leads all Sharks with 12 assists and is tied for the lead in points with Mathieu Darche with 15.
Offensive Bite...
Worcester forward Grant Stevenson is heating up. Stevenson has had two consecutive multi-point games to earn first and third stars of the game, respectively. The speedy winger had one goal and two assists in a 5-4 win over Manchester on Saturday (Oct. 28) and one goal and one assist in a loss against Springfield this past Saturday.
Making Schaefs...
Sharks netminder Nolan Schaefer is currently ranked seventh in the league for goals against average among goaltenders with 2.26 in four games played. The Yellow Grass, SK native also owns a .921 save percentage. Schaefer is 3-1, coming off his first loss of the season against the Falcons on Saturday.
