Sound Tigers Lose Rubber Match With Bears 2-1
November 21, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Bridgeport Islanders News Release
The Hershey Bears defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers tonight 2-1. Jeff Tambellini's goal in the second period would not hold up as the Bears answered with two goals, seven minutes apart from each other, in the middle frame, handing the Sound Tigers their second straight loss.
Mike Morrison was between the pipes for the Sound Tigers tonight and in the first period, he and Hershey net-minder, Frederic Cassivi kept both teams scoreless. Morrison's best save of the period came when Josef Boumedienne came out of the penalty box, took a pass and was in on an unmolested breakaway from the neutral zone. Boumedienne scored the same type of goal against the Sound Tigers on Saturday but Morrison would make a big kick save keeping the game scoreless.
In the second period, the Sound Tigers broke the 0-0 tie when Tambellini scored his sixth goal of the season, 6:40 into the period. Ben Walter was behind the net battling for the puck with Hershey defenseman, Tyler Sloan. Sloan was able to cut away from Walter with the puck but Walter dove to the ice and poke checked the puck off of Sloan's stick to Tambellini in the slot. Tambellini pounced on the loose puck and roofed it over Cassivi's glove for the 1-0 lead.
With his team on the power-play, Chris Bourque scored his seventh goal of the season to even the score for the Bears at 1-1. Scott Barney and Sami Lepisto assisted on the equalizer. The Bears would claim the lead at 17:27 when Joe Motzko scored his seventh goal of the season. While on a two-on-one with Motzko, Jason Morgan fed a pretty saucer pass over a Sound Tiger defenseman's stick to Motzko, who quickly snapped the puck past Morrison for the 2-1 lead going into the third period.
Cassivi would frustrate the Sound Tigers in the final period of play, stopping all 15 shots the Sound Tigers would fire at him to win the game 2-1 for the Bears. Cassivi finished with 38 saves on 39 shots and Morrison had 26 saves on 28 Hershey shots. The Sound Tigers were 0-8 on the man-advantage but the lone power-play goal, that sent the Sound Tigers to 3-4 on the penalty-kill, gave the Bears the game-tying goal which would energize their bench to score the game-winner seven minutes later.
