Wolves Beat Rivermen 2-1
November 21, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Chicago Wolves held on despite a late charge from the Peoria Rivermen in a 2-1 win at Allstate Arena on Wednesday night.
Chicago broke through first when Jesse Schultz tapped home a Jason Krog pass on the back post of the Rivermen net to make it 1-0 at 7:16 of the opening frame. Krog battled a rolling puck before slipping it over to Schultz on the right wing for his ninth of the season and third against the Rivermen in two games.
Peoria would respond to tie the game just 1:38 into the second period when Charles Linglet shoved the puck home in a goalmouth scramble. Nikolay Lemtyugov picked up the assist, centering the puck to Linglet to help tie the game. Jeff Woywitka picked up his fourth point in as many games with a helper on the play as well.
The lead was short-lived; just 44 seconds later Schultz returned the favor for Krog, setting up his seventh goal of the season to give the Wolves a 2-1 edge. Brett Sterling collected his second assist of the night on the play as well.
That goal turned out to be the game-winner, as despite 30 shots on net, Peoria would only score once in the contest.
Robert Gherson earned the win in net for Chicago, his third of the year. Chris Beckford-Tseu stopped 23 shots in his first AHL start of the season, and made several spectacular stops to keep it a one-goal game. Each team ended the contest 0-for-6 on the power play.
The same two teams will battle back in Peoria on Friday night at 7 pm. The Captain's Quarters will be open starting at 9 am for your holiday shopping convenience, plus from 10am to noon there will be $5 Lower Bowl tickets for Friday's at the Peoria Civic Center Box Office ONLY! It's also Canned Food Drive Night with everyone bringing a non-perishable food donation to the game receiving a free ticket to the December 11 game against the Hamilton Bulldogs. We'll see you at the games!
