Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack 3-2 Wednesday evening at the Hartford Civic Center. The P-Bruins got goals from David Krejci, Byron Bitz and Jeff Hoggan. The 12-2-1 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Friday at The Dunkin' Donuts Center to take on the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m.
The P-Bruins scored the lone goal of the opening period, despite each team having four power play opportunities in the period. At the 17:26 mark, Matt Lashoff crossed the center line and sent the puck to T.J. Trevelyan, who was cutting down the left wing. He passed the puck to Krejci, who was open just outside the Wolf Pack crease. Krejci wrapped the puck around Hartford goaltender Chris Holt and into the net. Providence took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Providence took a 2-0 advantage at the 3:15 mark. Matt Hendricks took a shot from the side of the next and Holt kicked the rebound right to Bytz. He scored with Brett Skinner getting the second assist. Hartford got on the board at the 14:50 mark. Brodie Dupont took a shot, which P-Bruin netminder Mike Brown saved. The rebound went to Pierre Parenteau as he scored. Artem Anisimov recorded the second assist as the P-Bruins went into the second intermission with a 2-1 lead.
In the third period, the P-Bruins took a two goal advantage at the 1:31 mark. Hoggan took a shot from the left face off circle. It looked like Holt made the save, but the puck trickled through his legs and crossed the goal line. Hendricks and Jonathan Sigalet picked up the assists. With time running out in regulation and their goaltender pulled the Wolf Pack scored at the 19:32 mark to pull within a goal. Parenteau tallied his second goal of the evening with Andy Hutchinson and Hugh Jessiman grabbing the assists. The P-Bruins were able to hold on for the final 28 seconds and go on to the 3-2 victory.
Brown stopped 26 of 28 shots for the P-Bruins, while Holt made 28 saves and Miika Wiikman made one save for the Wolf Pack. The P-Bruins were 0-for-7 on the power play and 7-for-7 on the penalty kill.
