Worcester Sharks News Release
Wilkes-Barre Scranton, PA - In the first ever meeting between the Sharks and the Penguins, the Worcester Sharks were defeated by the score of 6-0 on Wednesday night in Wilkes-Barre Scranton, PA behind four 2nd period goals by the Penguins.
Goaltender Dmitri Patzold made his first start of the season for the Worcester Sharks after being sent down from San Jose for conditioning. Patzold had only appeared in two games this season, both with San Jose and both in relief. Dmitri played 24 minutes for San Jose stopping 11/12 shots. Patzold was sharp in the first period, stopping all 14 Penguin shots through twenty minutes of play.
The Penguins would score four goals in the 2nd period, three goals in a 3:15 span 4:32 into the middle frame. D Deryk Engelland scored his first goal of the season, a shot from the point that was deflected in front of the skates of Patrick Traverse. It was all down hill from there, as Conner James, Kurtis McLean, and veteran Alain Nasreddine all would score in the second period for the Penguins.
The Penguins would add two more goals in the 3rd period and Ty Conklin recorded his first shutout of the season with 28 saves.
Notes: The Sharks power play went 0-6; the Penguins were 0-5. Mike Morris missed his 15th straight game due to injury, Lukas Kaspar his 2nd. Morris is skating and could possibly return in mid December. Brad Staubitz played forward for the second and third periods of play. Mike Iggulden recorded his first fighting major of the season with a 3rd period scrap with Nathan Smith.
