Springfield Falcons News Release

The Springfield Falcons once again used a strong third period in turning a close hockey game into a comfortable victory. The Falcons scored three third period goals on Wednesday night turning a 1-1 deadlock into a 4-1 victory extending their point streak to seven straight games. The Falcons are 5-0-1-1 in their last seven contests taking 12 of a possible 14 points in the standings. Springfield remains in second place in the Atlantic Division with a record of 10-5-1-3 on the season.

The Falcons scored three times in the first 5:35 of the final frame as Ben Simon gave Springfield a 2-1 advantage at 1:21 of the third period, followed by Patrick Thoresen's second marker of the game at 4:19, and concluding with Fredrik Johansson's second goal of the year at 5:35 of the final period.

"We came out and had a strong third period and it helped us earn the win tonight," said Falcons head coach Kelly Buchberger. "Both teams competed hard and we found a way to get it done, we have a tough road trip this weekend and this was a nice way to start a busy week."

After a scoreless first period, the two teams exchanged goals in the second period as Springfield took a 1-0 lead on the power play just 41-seconds into the middle frame when Thoresen scored his first goal of the night set up on a nice feed from Rob Schremp. The Falcons held on to a one-goal advantage until 15:39 of the second frame when Matt Ryan slid a wrist shot past Falcons goaltender Jeff Deslauriers.

Deslauriers was the game's second star as he earned his league-leading ninth victory of the season stopping 33 of the 34 shots on goal. Thoresen was the game's second star and Simon was the third star.
