Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Jonathan Ferland had two goals, including his team-leading eighth tally of the campaign, to lead the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 6-3 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday night at Van Andel Arena. The win improves the 'Dogs record to 6-7-0-3 through 16 games so far this season.

The teams exchanged goals early in the first period. Just 1:04 into the contest, Ryan O'Byrne notched his second goal of the season to open the scoring for the Bulldogs. The Griffins responded at the 7:59 mark courtesy of Carl Corazzini's sixth goal of the campaign to even the score 1-1.

In a span of 1:48 in the remainder of the opening frame, the teams exchanged goals again. Hamilton took another one-goal lead at the 14:35 mark when Sergei Kostitsyn set-up Corey Locke for his third goal of the season. Grand Rapids tied the score 2-2 at 16:23 of the period when Jakub Kindl notched his first tally of the campaign.

Marvin Degon gave the 'Dogs a 3-2 lead with the lone goal of the middle stanza at the 4:18 mark. Locke and Kostitsyn each earned their second point of the night with assists on the goal.

The Bulldogs increased their lead to 5-2 with two quick goals in the third period. Jonathan Ferland scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 5:26 mark, before Cory Urquhart gave Hamilton a three-goal lead at 7:32 of the frame with his fourth tally of the season.

Seventeen seconds after Urquhart's goal, Darren Helm cut into the Bulldogs lead with an unassisted marker for the Griffins at 7:49 of the third frame.

Ferland then tallied his second of the game and team-leading eighth goal of the season for Hamilton at 8:48 of the final stanza. The goal rounded out the scoring in the game and chased netminder Jimmy Howard from Grand Rapid's net in favour of Adam Berkhoel.

Between the pipes, Yann Danis turned aside 42 of the 45 shots he faced to earn the win for the Bulldogs, while Howard suffered the loss with 17 saves on 23 shots for the Griffins. Berkhoel stopped the only shot he faced in relief of Howard for Grand Rapids.

Locke (58-113-171), who posted a goal and an assist in the game, is now five points behind Tomas Plekanec (71-105-176) for second place on the Bulldogs all-time scoring list, and needs nine points to overtake Brain Swanson (71-108-179) and become Hamilton's all-time leading scorer.
