Stars fall to Flames, 3-1

David Van der Gulik scored two goals and Brent Krahn made 34 saves as the Quad City Flames defeated the Iowa Stars 3-1 Wednesday night at the I-Wireless Center in Moline, IL. It was the Stars' first ever game in the Quad Cities as the Flames improved to 2-0 versus the Stars this season and extended the Stars' winless streak to four games. The Stars' next game is Friday at Grand Rapids versus the Griffins at 6pm CST.

The Stars out-played the Flames in the first period with an aggressive and physical style. Marty Sertich capitalized on the power play for his seventh goal of the season at 11:46. Sertich scored on a BJ Crombeen rebound with Chris Lee getting the other assist.

The Flames scored two goals in the second and finished the scoring with Van der Gulik's empty net goal with 33 seconds left in the game.

Tobias Stephan made 23 saves in net for the Stars as the Stars outshot the Flames 35-26. The Flames went 2-5 on the power play while the Stars went 1-8.
