
Sound Tigers Blanked 3-0 In Hartford

HARTFORD, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, were shutout 3-0 on the road by the Hartford Wolf Pack Friday as Goaltender Jason LaBarbera notched his AHL-record 11th shutout of the year. LaBarbera first broke the all-time League mark just last week.
Hartford took charge of the game with a three-goal first period. First, Captain Ken Gernander scored his tenth of the season off an assist from Benoit Dusablon at 7:35.
Then, Paul Healey notched his 11th of the year off assists from Chad Wiseman and Matt Kinch at 13:20. Finally, Jeff Heerema converted the Wolf Pack's first power play of the game with his fourth of the season off assists from Wiseman and Lawrence Nycholat at 18:39 to make it 3-0 Hartford.
The Wolf Pack lead held up the rest of the way even though the Sound Tigers had a 31-24 shots on goal advantage, including 9-3 in the third period.
LaBarbera was the first star of the game with 31 saves. Wiseman was the second star with two assists. Gernander was the third star with the game-winning first goal. Sound Tigers Netminder Dieter Kochan made 21 saves in a losing effort. The Wolf Pack were 1 for 4 on the power play while the Sound Tigers were 0 for 5.
The Sound Tigers will return home to host the Norfolk Admirals at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Tomorrow's game will be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM and at www.soundtigers.com beginning at 6:45 p.m.
Tomorrow will be "Milford Family Fun Night" with specially-priced tickets for Milford residents and employees. It will also be "Labor Day in February" and "Union Appreciation Night" with specially-priced tickets for all labor union members and their family and friends. The first two-thousand fans who enter tomorrow's game versus Norfolk will receive a free Sound Tigers hat courtesy of Freedom Plains as well.
Sound Tigers individual-game tickets are on sale at the Harbor Yard box office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and on all game days, as well as on-line at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling Ticketmaster at 203-368-1000.
