Bulldogs Lose to Griffins in Overtime

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Grand Rapids' forward Kory Karlander scored at the 2:40 mark of overtime to give the Griffins a 2-1 win over the visiting Hamilton Bulldogs. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs earned a point and remain in first place in the AHL's North Division with 70 points and a record 30 wins, 16 losses, 7 ties and 3 overtime losses.

The first two periods of Friday's game featured a goaltending duel between the Bulldogs' Eric Fichaud and the Griffins' Joey MacDonald, as both netminders refused to allow a goal. Fichaud stopped 22 shots in the first two periods, while MacDonald made 14 saves.

The Bulldogs finally opened the scoring at the 7:37 mark of the third period, as rookie forward Alexander Perezhogin scored his 12th goal of the season. Assists went to Olvestad and Milroy on the play.

The Griffins replied with a goal of their own at 11:55 when Danny Groulx put a shot past Eric Fichaud.

Karlander then scored the game winner at 2:40 of overtime, with his Grand Rapids teammates Kevin Miller and Ryan Bonni picking up the assists.

The Bulldogs record in overtime now stands at six wins, three losses and seven ties.

On special team, neither the Bulldogs nor Griffins scored on the power play. The Bulldogs were 0 for 4, while the Griffins were 0 for 5.

The Hamilton Bulldogs next action will take place on Saturday, February 21st at 7:00 p.m. as they host the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks at Copps Coliseum.
