Springfield Falcons News Release

Portland, ME – Peter Ferraro scored the game-tying goal in the third period as the Springfield Falcons skated to a 3-3 deadlock before a crowd of 4,859 at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Friday evening. Forwards Chris Ferraro and Krystofer Kolanos also scored for the Falcons. Rookie goaltender David LeNeveu made 22 saves in his sixth straight start in the Falcons' net. Springfield is unbeaten in their last three games (1-0-2-0).

Peter Ferraro tied the contest for the Falcons at three goals apiece with 12:32 remaining in regulation by knocking a puck sitting in the crease across the goal line. On the play, Kolanos clanged a shot off the post, but the rebound came to rest in front of the net for Ferraro to tap in.

Neither team could score in overtime to gain the extra standings point. The Falcons found themselves a man short for two minutes of the session when Chris Ferraro was whistled for an obstruction holding penalty.

The Falcons grabbed an early lead when Chris Ferraro scored his tenth goal of the season 2:19 into the game. Ferraro deflected a shot by defenseman Jeremiah McCarthy past Pirates goaltender Maxime Ouellet for the goal. Rookie forward Frantisek Lukes as well as McCarthy were credited with assists on the marker.

Methot put back the rebound of a backhand attempt by right wing Boyd Gordon to knot the game for Portland with 3:51 remaiining in the first period.

Pirates captain Graham Mink received a centering feed from Methot in the slot before lifting a shot under the crossbar to capitalize on Portland power play with 10:49 remaining in the second frame. The goal was Mink's third against the Falcons and 17th overall this season.

However, the Falcons responded 1:58 later when Kolanos tallied to even the score, 2-2. The Springfield center shot the puck through traffic to break a 15-game goalless drought. Veterans Gary Shuchuk and Peter Ferraro collected assists on the goal.

The Pirates converted their second straight man advantage to regain the lead when the team's leading-scorer Colin Forbes connected from the bottom of the left wing face-off circle after receiving a pass from Methot with 6:34 left in the middle period.

The Falcons outshot Portland, 37-25, in the game. However, Springfield was scoreless on five power-play chances while the Pirates scored twice on seven opportunities with the man advantage.

Ouellet made 34 saves for the Pirates.

Falcons defenseman Matthew Spiller left the game in the second period with an injury.

The game marked the 11th straight contest in which Portland has come away with a point in the standings.

Goaltender Jean-Marc Pelletier, who was recalled from the Falcons on February 10th, started his first game for the Phoenix Coyotes this season against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight.

The Falcons will return to the Springfield Civic Center to host a pair of weekend contests. The club will meet the Lowell Lock Monsters on Saturday evening. Game time is 7:35 p.m. The Falcons will face the Binghamton Senators in the team's only visit to The Nest on Sunday in a 4:05 p.m. game.
