LOOKING AHEAD:
Grand Rapids' 12-game home unbeaten streak (9-0-3-0) gets the ultimate test this weekend, as the Griffins host North Division-leading Hamilton on Friday (7:30 ET) and Milwaukee's AHL-best offense on Saturday (7:30 ET, 6:30 CT). Joey MacDonald has pitched shutouts in each of his last three starts at Van Andel Arena, and is a combined 3-1-2 this season against the Bulldogs and Admirals. The Griffins are 13-3-4-0 in their last 20 games; Hamilton is 9-2-2-0 in its last 13, and Milwaukee is 10-2-2-1 in its last 15.
While the Western Conference's top two teams meet in Michigan on Friday, the Eastern Conference's division leaders clash at the Hartford Civic Center, with the Wolf Pack hosting in-state rival Bridgeport (7:05 ET) for the first of five meetings between the teams over the next 29 days. The Sound Tigers lead the AHL averaging 1.72 goals against per game; Hartford is second at 1.85. Bridgeport's All-Star goalie Wade Dubielewicz has allowed just one goal in three starts against the Pack this year, and the Tigers are the only team to defeat Hartford's Jason LaBarbera (21-7-7) twice in 2003-04.
San Antonio and Manitoba enter the weekend looking up at playoff spots in their respective divisions, and both need to pick up points during this two-game set at Winnipeg Arena on Friday (7:30 CT) and Saturday (6:00 CT). The Rampage are 4-4-0-0 so far on their 12-game road trip, while the Moose are kicking off a 10-game homestand after losing the last five of a seven-game road swing. As part of CBC's Hockey Day in Canada, live remotes from Saturday night's game in Winnipeg will be shown during the network's coverage of the Toronto-Montreal NHL game.
Elsewhere this weekend, one point separates second-place Manchester from fifth-place Providence in the Atlantic as the teams meet on Friday (7:05 ET)... Winners of five straight, Norfolk visits Lowell on Friday (7:00 ET); the Lock Monsters have dropped five in a row... Portland brings a 10-game points streak (6-0-1-3) into Friday's game with Springfield (7:05 ET)... Brad Shaw and Doug Jarvis, former teammates in Hartford (NHL) and Binghamton (AHL), reunite as opposing head coaches when Cincinnati visits Hamilton on Saturday (7:00 ET).
