Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Friday signed goaltender Doug Teskey to a professional tryout.

Teskey will serve as the understudy to Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week Joey MacDonald tonight when the Griffins host the Hamilton Bulldogs at 7:30. His signing was necessitated by the strained groin suffered by backup Bujar Amidovski during the morning skate prior to Grand Rapids' 3-1 win at Houston on Monday. Mark Scally, who was signed from the ECHL's Texas Wildcatters, backed-up MacDonald for two games against the Aeros before being released following the Griffins' 4-1 loss on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old Teskey has a 13-16-6 record with one shutout, a 2.96 goals against average and a 0.909 percentage in 37 outings for the ECHL's Toledo Storm, and his 1,052 saves rank fifth on that circuit. Last season, he led the Storm to best record in the ECHL, showing a 31-8-5 mark with a 2.89 GAA, a 0.909 save percentage and one shutout in 47 contests.

Teskey served the Griffins in an identical capacity from Feb. 7-19, 2003, while MacDonald recovered from a groin injury.
