Shorthanded Grizzlies Take 2-1 Overtime Win In Victoria

Victoria, British Columbia - The Utah Grizzlies (15-14-0-3) defeated the Victoria Salmon Kings (21-8-0-3) 2-1 in overtime Saturday night at Save-On-Foods-Memorial-Centre. Scott Burt (15) scored a breakaway shorthanded goal 1:03 into the overtime to give the shorthanded Grizzlies the win. Utah competed in the game with just 14 skaters.

The two teams scored 51 seconds apart in the first with Chris St. Jacques giving Victoria a 1-0 lead at 10:16. Utah captain Travis Rycroft responded at 11:07 with his second goal of the year. Rycroft was hauled down on the play, but was still able to get the puck into the net.

In the third, Utah was outshot 15-7 and went shorthanded six times, including 20 seconds down by two men late in the frame, but was still able to keep the game tied at one forcing overtime.

Utah goaltender Nathan Lawson stopped 34 of 35 shots in the game to improve to 9-5-0-1.

Utah went 9-9 in the game on the penalty-kill. The Grizzlies are currently 3-2 through five games on their season-long seven-game road trip.

The Grizzlies continue their seven-game road trip Sunday in Victoria at 2:05 p.m.

Utah returns home Friday, January 11 and Saturday, January 12 hosting Idaho at the E-Center.
