Texas Wildcatters News Release

Beaumont, TX- The ECHL-leading and red-hot Texas Wildcatters dropped the Charlotte Checkers 4-1 Saturday night, making coach Malcolm Cameron the winningest coach in club history with 67 victories since coming to the Catters last season.

The Catters got the offense rolling early as John Adams snuck in a shot from the point just 39 seconds into the contest. Assists on the play went to Danny Welch and Brandon Benedict, who extended his points streak to eight games.

Moises Gutierreznotched his fourth goal in three games to put the Catters on top 2-0 at 7:01 of the frame. His power play marker was assisted by Colin Nicholson and Marc Fulton and came on a powerful move to control a rebound in front of the net and slam it home past Charlotte goaltender Mike Ayers.

A.J. Thelen would score a shorthanded goal to increase the Texas lead on a laser beam snap shot that beat Ayers high on the glove side, but it was the fourth Texas goal of the night that shone brightest as Benedict rocketed a one-timer into the net on an odd man rush. Texas points leader and captain John McNabb would gather an assist and Welch would be credited with his second helper of the night in his first game since returning from a six-game suspension.

Anton Khudobin would be come minutes shy of his second shutout of the season after a puck caromed off of Thelan's shin pad and into the net at 7:42 of the third frame. Matthew Pierce would be credited with the goal for Charlotte.

The win extends the Catters unbeaten-in regulation streak to twenty-one games and comes as the 67th of Cameron's tenure with the club. The previous record was held by Ray Edwards who coached the team as the Huntington Blizzard from 1998-2000. Cameron has only coached in 105 games and has a record of 67-24-14, a winning percentage of .705.

The Wildcatters hold the best record in the ECHL at 26-2-1-4 (57 pts), are 9-0-1-0 in their last 10, and are far and away the hottest team in the league.

Attendance, which has been gathering momentum in the past weeks, saw a boost Saturday as 2,024 came to enjoy Golden Triangle Telephone Directory Night, surpassing the season average by several hundred.

The Wildcatters stay home this week and begin a three-game series versus the South Carolina Stingrays with Entergy Night Friday at 7:30. The series continues with FivePoint Credit Union Night 7:05 Saturday and concludes Sunday at 4:05.
