Augusta Lynx News Release

The Augusta Lynx will be happy to say goodbye to the Carolina Colesium this season. Thanks to a 3-1 Columbia Inferno win on Saturday afternoon, the Augusta Lynx came away with only one win this season in Columbia.

It took almost the entire game for the Lynx to get on the scoreboard, as Inferno goaltender Jeff Jakaitis put in another strong performance. The Lynx power play struggled, and it was none more evident during their second power play of the night, in which Columbia scored shorthanded of the tape of Steve McJannet to take a 1-0 lead.

It didn't take long for the Inferno to increase their lead in the 2nd period, as just a minute into the frame Owen Fussey found himself alone in front to slide one past Lynx goaltender #35 JP Levasseur for a 2-0 lead.

They played well in stretches, especially late in the 2nd period and early in the 3rd. It finally paid off with a goal from #18 Igor Pohanka on a nice individual effort to elude two Inferno players and put one glove high on Jakaitis. #5 Ken Scuderi and #20 Matt Auffrey assisted on the goal. However, with Levasseur pulled late in the game, the Lynx couldn't get set-up with the extra attacker and Brad Ralph sealed the win with an 175-foot bank shot into the empty net.
