CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones got a hat trick (three goals) from rookie forward Thomas Beauregard in collecting an 8-6 win over Reading on Saturday night at U.S. Bank Arena. Twice the Cyclones rallied from two goal deficits to claim the win. It was the tenth straight game without a regulation time loss for Cincinnati (9-0-1).
Reading raced out to a 3-1 first period. Brett Hemmingway opened the scoring for the Royals 13:00 into the frame, with Ryan MacGregor and Ned Lukasevic handing out the assists. Reading extended the lead to 2-0, when Tom Boudreau collected his first ECHL goal at 14:51.
Cincinnati closed the gap to 2-1, when defenseman Tyler Howells ripped a shot from the left faceoff dot, his seventh goal of the season-over the blocker shoulder of Royals goaltender Jon Quick at 17:36. Thirty-one seconds later, Ned Lukasevic was hauled down on a scoring attempt and was rewarded with a penalty shot. Lukasevic scored the shot, his tenth goal of the season and the period ended with Reading holding the two goal advantage.
A four-goal explosion for Cincinnati in the second period tied the game at 5-5. The Cyclones scored twice in the opening minute to knot the game at 3-3. Jean-Michel Daoust collected his ECHL-leading 26th goal, on the power play, from Desharnais and Gerard Miller at 28 seconds. Then, nine seconds later, James Sixsmith broke down the slot and shoveled a loose puck into the net for his second goal of the campaign from Thomas Beauregard and Chad Starling.
Cincinnati's first lead of the night came at 6:05, when Beauregard fired home a goal mouth scramble for his 14th score of the season from Sixsmith. Reading responded at 12:12, when Dany Roussin lit the lamp for the ninth time this season to make the score 4-4. Another Cyclones power play goal from Jason Deitsch at 13:07 from Beauregard and Daoust, gave Cincinnati a brief 5-4 lead. A little more than a minute later, at 14:11, Charlie Kronschnabel added his seventh goal of the year, shorthanded, to tie the game at 5-5.
In the third period, Beauregard netted his second of the night and 15th of the year at 1:38 from Deitsch and Gerard Miller, on the power play. Reading would tie the game one more time at 7:02, when P.J. Atherton collected his sixth goal. The game winning goal came at 17:30 from rookie Travis Fuller, his fifth of the season from Barret Ehgoetz and Andrew Martin. Beauregard completed his hat trick at 19:00 with an empty net goal Scott Reynolds handed out the assist to finish the scoring.
