Belleville Senators News Release

The Belleville Senators are proud to announce that Ben Sexton has been named the team's 2017-18 IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year for his outstanding contributions to the Belleville and Bay of Quinte community during the 2017-18 season

Sexton has been at the forefront of the Sens' community initiatives beginning when the Senators launched its jerseys last August when Sexton was one of two players on hand present at the reveal.

Since then, Sexton has been a mainstay in the Bay of Quinte community. He has attended three school visits where he has taken the lead and initiative to read hockey books to children while also taking the time to talk to children about his career path while answering fans' questions, signing autographs and taking photos.

In addition, Sexton has also taken part in the PHPA Grow with the Pros event where he coached young minor league players in Belleville and also skated with members of the Belleville Junior Bulls.

He also took the time to volunteer at the Gleaners Food Bank where he helped sort donated items after the Sens had held a food drive to collect food for those in need during a Senators game over the Christmas period. He also took the time to meet First Responder Units and give them tickets to the Sens' First Responders night on March 25.

The 26-year-old is now a finalist for the 2017-18 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award. The AHL's annual Man of the Year award is named after the late Yanick Dupre, who died in 1997 at the age of 24 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner will be announced at a later date.
