Rockford IceHogs News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill. - The American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs today announced that goaltender Matt Tomkins and forward Alex Wideman have been assigned to the ECHL's Indy Fuel.
Tomkins, 23, was recalled by the IceHogs on March 27 and did not appear in a game during his current AHL stint. He has compiled a 1-3-2-0 record with a 4.03 GAA and .869 save percentage in seven AHL appearances with Rockford during his first pro season, including making 25 saves in his AHL debut on Dec. 30 at Chicago. Tomkins later earned his first AHL win with a 32-stop effort on Jan. 19 at Cleveland.
The Edmonton, Alberta native returns to the Fuel where he has combined to post a record of 11-9-2 with a 3.47 GAA and .912 save percentage in 25 ECHL games. He has made 30 or more saves in four of his last five appearances while helping Indy earn at least a point in each of those four games.
Wideman, 26, was originally recalled by Rockford on March 17 and recorded four shots in three games with the IceHogs. The winger has now totaled two penalty minutes and 13 shots in 13 AHL contests this year, and skated in a combined 24 AHL contests during his pro career.
The St. Louis native has spent the majority of the 2017-18 season with the Fuel, tallying 38 points (15g, 23a) in 46 games. At the time of his recall to the IceHogs, Wideman ranked fourth among Fuel skaters in points and assists, and his 15 goals were the sixth-most on Indy's active roster. He now rejoins the Fuel with 18 points (6g, 12a) over his last 15 ECHL contests.
