SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage are proud to announce that defenseman Mason Geertsen has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the San Antonio community during the 2017-18 season.

Geertsen has dedicated his time off the ice to the San Antonio community by giving back in a variety of ways. Participating in his third season of the Rampage's Face Off Against Kids Cancer program, Geertsen was paired with eight-year-old Koby. The two have spent the entire season participating in a multitude of FOAKC events, as well as special hangout sessions following Rampage home games.

In addition to his dedication to Koby and his family, the Drayton Valley, Alta. native also devoted his time to visiting a breast cancer survivor support group at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital leading up to San Antonio's annual Pink in the Rink Game. Geertsen and his teammates surprised the group with pink roses, t-shirts and tickets to the game, including a personal invitation to be honored during the Caliente Harley Davidson Starting Lineup at the AT&T Center. Additionally, Geertsen paired up with two teammates to help H-E-B distribute 2,000 donated bags of fresh produce to students and families of the City of San Antonio's Pre-K 4 SA program for a happy and healthy Thanksgiving holiday.

Similar to his efforts off the ice, Geertsen has made an impact in the San Antonio community on the ice. First, by joining Operation Comfort and the San Antonio Rampage Sled Hockey in a joint practice at the team's facility. He ditched his skates for a sled and joined the team for a scrimmage with half Rampage players and half Rampage Sled Hockey players. Geertsen also surprised four different Jr. Rampage hockey teams this season, providing the youth teams with tips, drills, demonstrations and advice.

Geertsen is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2017-18 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League at a later date.
