Hogs Outlast Moose for Third Straight Win
March 29, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Tyler Sikura, Tanner Kero, Adam Clendening and Chris DiDomenico ignited a four-goal outburst in a span of 13:53 to fuel the Rockford IceHogs to a 4-3 victory over the Manitoba Moose at Bell MTS Place Wednesday night. Rockford has now won three consecutive contests, and has picked up points in 10 of its last 11 matchups.
The Hogs led by as much as 4-1 late in the second period, but Manitoba cut the deficit to a single goal before Rockford closed them out for the second time this week. With tonight's win, the IceHogs now sit five points clear of fifth-place Iowa and the playoff cutline, and just two points in back of third-place Grand Rapids.
After Chase De Leo put the Moose ahead eight minutes into the affair, Sikura poked home a rebound of a Clendening shot that had found the goalpost to knot the score at one. DiDomenico nabbed an assist on the play, extending both his and Sikura's individual point streaks to seven games, a season-high for a Rockford player.
Seven minutes later, a prone Kero managed to deflect Luke Johnson's centering feed off of defenseman Kirill Gotovets and past netminder Michael Hutchinson to lift Rockford to its first lead of the game. The goal marked Kero's second tally in his last five games after going scoreless through his previous nine outings.
Clendening then doubled the Hogs' advantage with a cannon into the twine. The blueliner skated to the top of the faceoff circles on a rush and cranked a slapshot over Hutchinson's shoulder for his fifth point in this week's two games against the Moose.
In the middle frame, DiDomenico pushed the margin to three goals at 4:31, finishing off a gorgeous passing play from Lance Bouma and Anthony Louis. His lamplighting effort marked DiDomenico's fourth multi-point night of his current seven-game point streak, and brought his total to 4g-7a-11pts in that span.
Cameron Schilling responded for the Moose before the end of the stanza, and Brody Sutter chalked up another goal in Manitoba's favor late in the third period, but Jeff Glass shut the door the rest of the way, stopping 21 of 24 total shots to seal Rockford's victory. Hutchinson turned aside 24 of 28 shots in the opposite crease. ---
