Stockton Heat News Release
STOCKTON, CALIF. - The Stockton Heat are proud to announce that Colby Robak has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Stockton and Central Valley community during the 2017-18 season.
"Colby has distinguished himself through his efforts to serve our community in any capacity that has been asked of him," Heat CEO Brian Petrovek said. "He's is the kind of veteran teams dream of. Not only did he provide great leadership to our young players on the ice but was always eager to say "yes' to any and all community appearances this season. Colby is truing deserving of this prestigious Man of the Year award".
Veteran defenseman Colby Robak led by example both on and off the ice this season, continually involved in the Heat's community appearances throughout the season. Whether that meant building a house for Habitat for Humanity, working the ovens at Smack Pie Pizza in Lodi or even spread holiday cheer by appearing in a Stockton Symphony performance during the Holiday POPS concert.
With a young family of his own, Robak made sure his wife and infant son were involved in many of community appearances and even through rehabbing of an injury in December, made sure that it wasn't an excuse to keep him away from doing his part to help brighten the lives of those in the Central Valley.
Robak is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2017-18 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League at a later date.
