Sea Dogs Recieve Matt Sheely From Single-A Salem

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs have received outfielder Matt Sheely from Single-A Salem. Sheely will wear uniform number 12. Sea Dogs' outfielder Bubba Bell was transferred to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday, June 15th.

This will be Sheely's second stint with the Sea Dogs this season. He appeared in nine games for the Sea Dogs May 1st through May 15th hitting .333 (6-for-18) with two RBI. In 35 games with Single-A Salem this season, Sheely hit .256 (21-for-82) with six RBI and ten stolen bases. The 22 year-old Sheely spent the 2008 season with Single-A Lancaster where he hit .218 with 12 RBI in 65 games. He was selected by the Red Sox in 48th round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft.

The 26 year-old Bell has spent parts of the last three seasons with the Sea Dogs. Bell appeared in 53 games for Portland in 2009 hitting .275 (58-for-211) with five home runs and 20 RBI. He reached base safely in 43 of 53 games played this season. Last season Bell was limited to 79 games with the Sea Dogs landing on the disabled list on July 21st and missing the remainder of the season. Bell was selected to the Eastern League All-Star Game in 2008 but did not appear in the exhibition. In 2007 Bell combined to hit .337 with 26 home runs and 105 RBI between Single-A Lancaster and Double-A Portland. He was selected both the California League Rookie of the Year and MVP in 2007 hitting .370 with 22 home runs and 83 RBI for Single-A Lancaster. Bell was selected by the Red Sox in the 39th round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft.

The Portland Sea Dogs begin a six game homestand Tuesday night with 7:00 PM game against the Erie SeaWolves at Hadlock Field. Tickets are available for all remaining 2009 Sea Dogs' home games.
