June 16, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE/NEW BRITAIN SERIES: The Altoona Curve and New Britain Rock Cats will meet for the fourth of six scheduled meetings tonight. The Rock Cats swept the Curve in a three game series last week. New Britain has now beaten the Curve five consecutive games, the longest streak ever for the Rock Cats.
FOR ALTOONA: LHP Daniel Moskos is on the mound for the Curve tonight. Moskos will be making his 13th appearance this year and his 12th start. The South Carolina native picked up his third win of the season in his last start at Erie where he allowed only one run on eight hits in 6.0 innings of work. Further Moskos has lowered his ERA by more than two points over his last seven starts (6.35-3.94). Last week against New Britain Moskos threw seven strong innings and allowed just two runs on six hits, yet still took the loss.
FOR NEW BRITAIN: Right hander Jay Rainville gets the start for the Rock Cats. Rainville will be making his 13th start of the season. Has only pitched 57.1 innings in his 12 starts which averages just over 4.2 innings per start. Recently he has had longer outings tossing 5.2 innings or more in four of his last five starts including 5.2 innings in a win over the Curve on 6/10 where he allowed one run on five hits and walked just two.
HAMMERIN' HECTOR: Curve UTL Hector Gimenez has been outstanding swinging the bat recently. Gimenez is hitting .360 over his last 10 games with a home run and six RBIs plus he has reached base in 16 of his last 17 games and recorded multi hit games in five of his last nine games.
NORTHERN EXPOSURE: Tonight will mark the seventh consecutive game against a team from the Eastern League North Division. Currently the Curve are 2-7 against the North, but come in riding a two game winning streak against the folks up north.
FAST GORKYS, SLOW START: Newly acquired outfielder Gorkys Hernandez has not began his Curve career well, he is currently 4-for-36 (.111) in his first 10 games after hitting .316 at Double-A Mississippi earlier this year.
HOW LERUD: C Steve Lerud had a 14-game on-base streak snapped on 6/13. After his team-best 11-game hitting streak last month, Lerud has been one of the team's most consistent bats. Lerud has recorded a hit in 24 of his last 33 games raising his batting average from .135 to .259.
REJUVENATED JIMMY: Curve 2B Jim Negrych has been finding hit swing again for the Curve offense. In his last seven games Negrych is hitting .360 (9x25) including three consecutive multi hit games to give him the team lead at 15.
