(Trenton, NJ)- Connecticut Starting Pitcher Tim Alderson hurled seven shutout innings to lift the Defenders to a 4-0 victory over Trenton on Tuesday night from Waterfront Park. Trenton has now dropped eight of its last 11 games.

Connecticut (36-28) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Second baseman Brock Bond singled off of Trenton Starting Pitcher Zach McAllister (5-3) to lead off the inning, and then advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Center fielder Mike McBryde. After a groundout by Third baseman Brad Boyer moved Bond to third base, First baseman Brett Pill reached on an infield single with two outs to drive in Bond to give the Defenders the lead.

The Defenders struck for three runs in the eighth inning to extend their lead to 4-0. Connecticut Catcher Jackson Williams led off with a single and then went to second base on a bunt single by Bond. McBryde followed by dropping a bunt in front of home plate. McAllister fielded the bunt but made an errant throw towards third base to allow Williams to score. After a strikeout of Boyer, Pill connected on a two-run single to make it 4-0. Pill went 3 x 4 with three RBI.

Alderson (3-1) yielded only two hits in seven innings. He struck out five and walked two. He retired the final 11 batters that he faced. McAllister scattered a season-high nine hits and four runs (three earned) over 7 1/3 innings. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter. Thunder Reliever Kevin Whelan came on for McAllister and tossed a perfect 1 2/3 innings and struck out the side in the ninth inning. Third Baseman Chris Malec and Left Fielder Justin Snyder were the only players with hits in the game for Trenton (32-31).
