Valdez Joins Roster

Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP Jose Valdez has been transferred from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A) to Trenton, and RHP Eric Wordekemper has been placed on the Disabled list.

Valdez has appeared in nine games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and has a 2-1 record and a 4.19 ERA. Prior to being promoted on April 25th, Valdez appeared in five games for Trenton and was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and four saves. In 2008, the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native split time between Trenton and Tampa (High-A). For the Thunder, he appeared in 17 games and posted a 1-0 record with a 2.22 ERA and four saves. Valdez was signed as a non-drafted free agent on October 5, 2000.

Wordekemper has also split time between Trenton and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. In his two combined stints with the Thunder, the 6-foot-1 right-hander has appeared in 10 games and has a 0-0 record with a 2.79 ERA and one save. With Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Storm Lake, Iowa native appeared in six games and went 1-0 with an 8.10 ERA and one save.

Trenton begins a three-game series tonight at Waterfront Park against the Connecticut Defenders. RHP Zach McAllister (5-2, 1.60) will start for Trenton.
