Trenton Thunder News Release
The Aberdeen IronBirds outslugged the Trenton Thunder 14-9 in a high-scoring, action-packed matchup.
Trenton struck first in the opening frame when Bryson Trammell launched a three-run home run down the right-field line. However, Aberdeen responded forcefully in the second inning. Patrick McCullough got the IronBirds on the board with an RBI single, followed by a two-run single from Jacoby Radcliffe and a bases-clearing two-run triple by Jevin Relaford to cap a five-run frame. Aberdeen expanded its cushion to 9-3 in the third inning through RBI singles from McCullough and Relaford, alongside a sacrifice fly by Brylan West.
Trenton trimmed the deficit in the bottom of the third when Michael Whooley blasted a three-run homer to left field. Aberdeen kept the pressure on, adding a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth inning behind a bases-loaded single by Randy Flores that brought home three runs following an outfield error. Trenton fought back in the bottom of the sixth with RBI hits from Daniel Murillo and AJ Swader, bringing the score to 13-8.
After both pitching staffs settled down in the late innings, Aberdeen picked up an insurance run in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch. Trenton pushed across one last run in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI double by Brayden Fraasman, but relief pitcher Jake Geis closed out the victory. Dylan Cheeley earned the win in relief for Aberdeen (4-1), while Trenton starter Connor Godwin took the loss (0-3).
