PRINCE GEORGE, BC- The Prince George Cougars (18-24-2-1) winless streak was extended to four games (0-3-1-0) after a 4-1 loss to the visiting Vancouver Giants (17-23-2-0) at the CN Centre on Friday night.
The win by Vancouver shrunk the gap between the two teams to three points. Prince George still sits third in the B.C. Division, but the Giants still have three games in hand.
Carter MacAdams scored the Cougars' lone goal inside the final minute of regulation. Tyler Brennan was tagged with the loss, as he stopped 26 of 29 shots.
Vancouver's Jesper Vikman was solid between the pipes. The Vegas Golden Knights prospects stopped 34 of 35 shots and was named the game's first star.
The two teams have split the first 10 games of the season series. They meet again Saturday at the CN Centre.
GAME RECAP
Vancouver's Ty Thorpe scored the only goal through the first 40 minutes of the game. The 19-year-old scored on the power play late in the first period to put the visitors ahead. Thorpe scored twice on Friday, as he added an empty net goal in the third period.
The turning point on Friday was a 51-second span early in the third period. The Giants scored two goals less than a minute apart to go up 3-0. First, Fabian Lysell banged in a rebound at 2:56 to make it 2-0. Then, Justin Lies tipped a pass from Zack Ostapchuk through the legs of Brennan at 3:47 to put Vancouver up 3-0.
Thorpe's empty net goal at 18:33 made it 4-0 for Vancouver, before MacAdams pulled one back for Prince George.
MacAdams darted down the left wing and made a move to the inside before firing a backhand that beat Vikman on the blocker side at 19:12.
The Cougars outshot Vancouver 22-14 through two periods, including 13-6 in the middle frame, but could not manufacture any offence.
NOTES
The Cougars have scored just five goals in their last four games. Prince George saw their home record slip to 10-9-1-1 with Friday's loss. They're now 15-15-0-1 against the B.C. Division. Cayden Glover (upper body), Blake Eastman (lower body), and Jonas Brøndberg (illness) did not play Friday.
